Diagnosis

Body light-coloured with orange pigmentation on pterothorax, fore wings pale except by the greyish apex. Antenna with 8 segments and with long and forked sense cones. Pronotum with transverse lines of sculpture. Mesothoracic endofurca with spinula and metathoracic endofurca lyre-shaped. Posteromarginal comb of microtrichia on abdominal tergite VIII complete.

Male unknown.

Genus and similar species information

The New World genus Leucothrips includes five species, all of them small and white coloured, and with lyre-shaped metathoracic endofurca. This group is not clearly distinguished from the Neotropical genus Halmathrips, and is also closely related to Pseudodendrothrips. The other Leucothrips species recorded from Brazil, L. nigripennis, can be distinguished from L. pictus by the 7-segmented antennae and darker fore wings.
