Thrips is the largest genus amongst Terebrantia, comprising more than 280 described species. This group is primarily from Holartic and Old World tropics, with all members lacking ocellar setae I and with ctenidia on abdominal tergite VIII posteromesad to spiracles.
World distribution
Widely distributed in southern Asia, also occurring in some Pacific islands and northern Australia. Reported for Tanzania as well. In the American continent, it was recorded from Florida and Hawaii (United States), Trinidad, Virgin Islands, and recently from Brazil.

Life history
Occurs in a variety of flowers, mainly Gardenia and Jaminum. In Brazil, it was found in Jasminum sambac flowers (Lima et al. 2018).
