Diagnosis Body bicolored, mainly brown but with median region of head, meso-metanotum, legs (except apex of hind femora) and parts of abdomen yellow; antennal segments I–II and VI–IX brown, III–V yellow basally and brown apically; forewings uniformly brown, with a pale circular spot near base. Head with striate sculpture except within the ocellar region; three pairs of ocellar setae present. Antennae 9-segmented, III & IV with forked sense cones. Pronotum transversely striate; only one pair of long posteroangular setae, no long setae on anterior margin. Meso and metathoracic endofurca without spinula. Metanotum transversely striate anteriorly, reticulate with internal markings posteromedially; campaniform sensilla absent; two pairs of stout setae. Fore wing first vein setal row largely incomplete, second vein setal row complete and closely spaced. Abdominal tergites II–VII with several lines of sculpture laterally; II–VII with a pair of long and close together median setae; II–VI with an incomplete posteromarginal comb of microtrichia, VII–VIII with a complete comb. Sternites with three pairs of long setae arising ahead of posterior margin.
Male macroptera and smaller than females; with a glandular region between sternites II and III.

Genus and similar species information This Neotropical genus comprises ten species, all with antennae 9-segmented and the male pore plate placed on the antecostal area of abdominal sternite III. Enneothrips amazonicus is similar in coloration and sculpture to E. flavens, but it can be distinguished by the presence of a complete comb of microtrichia on abdominal tergite VII, and abdominal segments more widely brown.A key to Enneothrips species is available in Vieira et al. Distribution around the world Described from Brazil.
Life history Unknown, probably phytophagous. Specimens from the type-series were collected in a variety of plants, including one species of Fabaceae and one of Zingiberaceae, but there is no information on any potential association with these plants.
