Species not studied on the current work. Body brown, antenna 8-segmented, sense cones on III & IV simple; major setae on head, pronotum and wings with broadly flattened and fringed apices.

Genus and similar species information
The genus Echinothrips includes seven species, found from North America to southern South America. All of them have the head and pronotum strongly reticulate but differ from Panchaetothripinae in having a well-developed mesothoracic spinula. Echinothrips pinnatus is easily recognised by the body setae with broadly flattened and fringed apices, a trait found only in E. asperatus within the same genus, but this one has forked sense cones on antennal segments III & IV. A key to Echinothrips species is given by Mound & Marullo (1996).
