Body dark brown, with fore wings pale to yellowish; antennal segments III and IV bright yellow. Head longer than wide, with the interocellar setae pair long. Pronotum longer than wide, trapezoidal, sculpture weak and two pairs of long setae on posterior angles. Abdominal tergites I–VIII porsteriorly marginated by broad and sharp teeth.

Genus and similar species information
Prionothrips is a monobasic genus registered only for Brazil. It was compared to Bregmatothrips on the original description, but without further comments, and its biology is unknown.
