Diagnosis Female macropterous; body color dark brown, darker on the last abdominal segments and base of tube; legs brown, with fore tarsi and apexes of femora yellow; antennomere I yellow, II yellow on base and apex with median area brown, III dark brown with extreme base yellow, IV–VIII almost black; fore wings brown, darker on base and apex. Antennae 7-segmented, VII–VIII almost completely fused but with a visible suture between both; antennomere III with 2 and IV with 4 sense cones. Head as long as wide, without elongated setae on cheeks; maxillary stylets wide apart, forming a “V” shape. Prosternum with basantra. Metanotum weakly sculptured, with one pair of long median setae wide apart. Metathoracic sternopleural sutures present. Pelta reticulate, with the posterior margin potentially eroded; abdominal tergites II–VII with 1 pair of wing-retaining setae; tube cone-shaped, a wide base strongly tapering to the apex, covered in tubercles with short setae, about 1.1x as long as basal width. Median abdominal sternites are usually longer than tergites. Fore tarsi with a robust tooth. Fore wings without duplicated cilia.

Genus and similar species information Acallurothrips is a genus with over 20 species worldwide, of which three are recorded in Brazil. These thrips have a characteristic tube: short, with a thick base and strongly tapering to the apex, sometimes with short setae laterally. The head is about as wide as long, with maxillary stylets at least one third of head width apart; antennomeres VII and VIII are partially or completely fused; and abdominal sternites are usually longer than the tergite in the same segment. Acallurothrips quadraticeps is the largest of the Brazilian species of this genus, reaching a length of 2 millimeters when distended (A. conifer and A. fasciolatus only reach 1.5 millimeters when distended); it also has a very short tube, about as long as the basal width.
