Genus and similar species information

Adraneothrips is a diverse genus, with almost 80 valid species, widely distributed across tropical areas in the Americas and Asia. It has a lot of morphological variation and lacks a clear diagnosis, but most of the species included in the genus have the following characteristics: maxillary stylets with a bridge; pronotum with 5 pairs of well-developed setae and epimeral sutures complete; pelta longer than wide; both lateral sutures on abdominal tergites II–VII usually visible dorsally; fore wings with few duplicated cilia. World distribution

Described from Brazil (H. bahiaensis) and St Lucia (A. fuscicollis), recorded from Barbados, Belize, Costa Rica, Grand Cayman, Guadeloupe, Island, Panama, Puerto Rico and Trinidad.
