Species not studied on the current work. Body dark brown, with antennal segments III & IV bearing forked sense cones. Major setae on head, pronotum and fore wings flattened and fringed.

Genus and similar species information
The genus Echinothrips includes seven species, found from North America to southern South America. All of them have the head and pronotum strongly reticulate but differ from Panchaetothripinae in having a well-developed mesothoracic spinula. Echinothrips asperatus can be easily distinguished by forked sense cones on antennal segments III & IV. A key to Echinothrips species is given by Mound & Marullo (1996).
