Male macropterous; body color brown, with fore tibiae and tarsi paler; antennomere I brown, II brown with the apex lighter, III–IV yellow, V–VI yellowish but shaded with brown, VII–VIII light brown; wings pale and without a dark median line, clavus brown. Antennae 8-segmented, antennomere III with 2 and IV with 4 sense cones; VIII slightly constricted basally. Head longer than wide, dorsal surface smooth, lateral margins straight; postocular setae well developed, with expanded apexes; maxillary stylets retracted halfway between base of head and base of postocular setae, over half of head width apart. Pronotum smooth, with 4 pairs of long and capitate setae, anteromarginal pair very small; prosternal basantra present. Metanotum smooth anteromedially, with a pair of median setae. Pelta triangular, weakly reticulated, with a pair of campaniform sensilla; abdominal tergites II–VII with 2 pairs of wing-retaining setae. Abdominal sternite VIII with a small circular pore plate medially. Tube cone-shaped, about 2x as long as basal width, without lateral setae. Fore legs swollen, fore tarsi without a tooth but with a well-developed hamus. Fore wings with 5–9 duplicated cilia.
Female macropterous. Similar to male but slightly larger, with fore femora less swollen.

Genus and similar species information
Haplothrips is one of the richest genera in Thysanoptera, with around 250 species distributed across the world, but especially in temperate areas of the northern hemisphere. Most of the species live in flowers, but some are recorded predating small arthropods. Haplothrips belongs to tribe Haplothripini, which contains about 30 genera, with species having medially constricted forewings, maxillary bridge and a well-developed basantra. It has several similarities to Karnyothrips, but both genera are distinguished from each other by the number of sense cones on antennomere IV (3 in Karnyothrips, 4 in Haplothrips) and the fore tarsi (without a tarsal tooth in Haplothrips, with a curved tarsal tooth in Karnyothrips).
The species in Haplothrips are divided between two subgenera: those with duplicated cilia in the fore wings are placed in Haplothrips (Haplothrips), and those without such cilia belong to Haplothrips (Trybomiella). Haplothrips dissociatus belongs to the first subgenus, together with H. gowdeyi; and it is distinguished from the latter for having reduced anteromarginal setae on pronotum, as well as males bearing a pore plate on abdominal sternite VIII. Lives in Lippia sp. flowers, possibly phytophagous.
